Formula 1 fan-favorite Daniel Ricciardo has always been known for his infectious personality and larger-than-life energy, and now, he’s channeling that same spirit into fashion. The Australian driver has opened up about the inspiration behind his clothing brand ‘Enchante’—a name that carries a mix of humor, nostalgia, and a nod to his time in Monaco.
The Origin of ‘Enchante’: A Monaco-Inspired Laugh
Ricciardo, who spent a significant portion of his career living in Monaco, revealed the hilarious story behind the brand’s name.
“It started as a bit of a laugh. I lived in Monaco for such a big part of my life, and I didn’t know much French. One of my friends would always say enchanté when we would go out or have a drink, instead of saying ‘cheers’. It always made us sound very Monegasque and a little tip of the cap to somewhere I had spent a lot of my life,” Ricciardo shared.
With his signature blend of cheekiness and fun, the name ‘Enchante’ perfectly captures the laid-back yet stylish energy that defines his brand.
Aussie Influence and ’90s Nostalgia in Design
Beyond the name, Ricciardo’s latest collection draws heavy inspiration from his Australian roots and childhood influences.
“Aussies definitely know how to dress. It’s one of the things I notice when I come home,” Ricciardo said, highlighting the effortless yet stylish fashion culture in Australia.
The collection takes cues from the surf and skate scene of the ’90s, an era that played a big role in shaping Ricciardo’s personal style.
“I grew up as a ’90s kid, so this collection sees me draw inspiration from the surf and skate shops I used to hang out at. I injected an iconic, instantly recognisable Australian summer colour palette into the range, mixed with fun fonts and graphics too. I see so much of this style coming back. I love seeing what’s old become new again. It’s a simple design but looks and feels great.”
The Challenges of Fashion and Evolving ‘Enchante’
While Ricciardo is used to the high-speed world of Formula 1, the fashion industry presents an entirely different set of challenges.
“I am always excited for each collection, but I recognise not everyone has the same style or taste as you, so I was a bit nervous when I was starting out,” he admitted. “I wouldn’t say it’s gotten easier either, because you are always trying to evolve and create something that’s slightly different but still stays true to the vision of the brand.”
Despite the challenges, Ricciardo has gained more confidence in his creative direction.
“The main difference now is that I’m more knowledgeable, which makes the process a bit faster. I have a clearer idea of what I want, but the intricacies of design still take time to get right.”
From the racetrack to the fashion scene, Ricciardo continues to inject his signature personality into everything he does. With ‘Enchante,’ he’s not just creating clothing—he’s bringing a slice of Monaco, Australia, and his own journey to life through bold, stylish designs.
