New York Mets’ two-time All-Star infielder Jeff McNeil has been diagnosed with a low-grade right oblique strain, sidelining him for the start of the 2025 MLB season. Manager Carlos Mendoza announced that McNeil will be inactive for seven to ten days before a reassessment, with a full recovery anticipated in three to four weeks.

McNeil, 32, experienced a challenging 2024 season, posting a .238 batting average with 12 home runs and 44 RBIs over 129 games. This followed his 2022 National League batting title, highlighting a notable decline in performance.

The Mets are also managing other injuries, including outfielder Brandon Nimmo’s recent knee discomfort. Nimmo returned to spring training after a 13-day absence, with an MRI revealing no structural damage.

eIn McNeil’s absence, the Mets may look to players like Brett Baty, Luisangel Acuña, Donovan Walton, and Luis De Los Santos to fill the void at second base. Manager Mendoza remains optimistic about the team’s depth and resilience as they navigate these early-season challenges.
